Architects & Designers

Architects are able to take advantage of the 179D deduction for their work on the construction or renovation process of government buildings. To qualify for this tax deduction, the energy consumption of the building must be reduced by 50%.

Qualifying individuals can claim a deduction as much as $5 per square foot for the government buildings they’ve worked on.

It’s important to note that the architect, designer, or engineer that is primarily responsible for the design of the government building and its energy-saving system is the only individual who is able to apply for the 179D deduction.

Eligible Projects Include a Wide Range of Buildings

  • Airports
  • Libraries & Post Offices
  • Courthouses and Other Government Offices
